
This mermaid toy is a cheerful bathtub companion. It can float beside you, but when submerged, she begins to sing.
I developed this piece inspired by singing ceramics from pre-Columbian times. The principle is simple: water enters through the bottom of the mermaid, pushing air upward and through a whistle that produces sound.
This toy also marks my first attempt at using plastic, a material I approached with curiosity and caution, expanding the range of techniques and forms in my practice.
